Jon - What happened next?

Jon helped Fruitful Oaks out with some big jobs in 2008. In 2009 he started working full-time for Grace Church.

Jon's story, in his own words:

I believed in God from an early age, but it was clear to me that I had to make my own decision to follow Jesus. When I was 14, I moved to a church youth group where what Jesus had done for me became very real, how he had died for me on the cross so that if I asked him into my life, he could forgive me for all the things I'd ever done wrong and I would be in a relationship with God forever.

But what made this so real was the joy and sense of purpose of the Christians around me. They had a wonderful identity and happiness about them and they knew God intimately. I wanted this desperately, so I asked Jesus to come and live in my life and to forgive me for the things I'd done wrong. I was confused when I didn't feel any different afterwards, so tried it again a few times, just to make sure God had heard.

I later spoke to someone at the youth group and he said that if I'd truly meant what I said when I committed my life to God, then I was a Christian. At that moment I felt this incredible feeling come over me and a sense of joy rise within me. I knew that God was with me and from that moment on, I can honestly say that I wouldn't swap my relationship with Him for the world.

God has been so faithful in providing for me and I have found a new life of joy and fulfilment in Him. That the Maker of all things would choose to know me is astonishing and even more so, that I can call Him my Father, my Friend and my Saviour. And that same relationship with God is open to you, if you will simply call out to him and ask him to forgive you for the things you've done wrong and ask him to come and live in your life.
